Disappointing - By: BSW, 19 Aug 2010
A veteran of classic shooters such as Namco's excellent Time Crisis series, (admittedly, the earlier titlesin the series are the best), I thought I would purchase this title as good 1st person, light-gun based, shooters are sparse on this generation of consoles. I had high expectations for the Wii, which seems naturally suited to this genre & was expecting accuracy similar to the gun controllers I used on both the Arcade units & on PlayStation 1 & 2 at home with games like Time Crisis & Point Blank.

Using the Wii controller, aiming appeared to be quite inaccuratein this game & initially I blamed holding the contoller like a remote. I therefore bought 2 'Wii Zapper' peripherals to slot the Wii remotes into,in the effort to create a more comfortable & 'normal' shooting position. This, unfortunately, only accentuated the bizarrely malaligned sights of the game. One can clearly see by looking down the surface of the remote that the sights are hideously off & there is a surprising amount of motion parallax present! There is extremely limited calibration options in-game, which after much fiddling, improved matters, but not by much. The player is therefore resigned to just using the controller as a very basic guide & all fine aiming must be performed by watching the reticule on screen; indeed, this is why this game must include a reticule whereas games such as Time Crisis did not need this as the aiming accuracy was pixel-perfect. Like other reviewers have written, there are many scenesin the game which attempt to make the player sea-sick with extremely jerky motion & prevent any accurate aiming at all. Best option is to select the machine-gun during these sequences & spray liberally,in the hope of hitting a target. Not a lot of ammunition to adopt this approach for long, however.

Summary
The game is fine for whiling away a couple of hours, but ultimately extremely frustrating & disappointing as a shooting game. Accuracyin this genre is an absolute must. Resident Evil obsessives may enjoy the storyline, but I found this monotonous, uninteresing & repetitive, the same virus-related antics as any other RE game/story. Plus, the Wii graphics herald from the previous generation of consoles; I would have expected better from my PS2.

Here's hoping PlayStation Move has some good shooters to go with their 'interesting looking' gun peripheral!
Highly addictive - By: L. Jones, 18 Jul 2010
Once I started playing this game I almost couldn't bear to turn the wii off. If you like the Resident Evil series then this is a great game. Basically a point & shoot game, The Darkside Chronicles doesn't have the same level of interactive gameplay as Resident Evil 4, but it's great to be able to playin 2-player mode & the storyline hooks you in.
Very fun game and very good value for money - By: Martin Buckman, 16 Jul 2010
This game was bought with the Venom Wii blaster & it works very well. You can also play the game with the wiimote & nunchuck which works just as well. The shaky camera can make headshots much harder to carry out, I agree that this improves the atmosphere & tension. The game is much easier to play 2 player than 1 player.
The upgrade weapon system makes it more interesting & makes you want to collect more gold bars while playing. The game isn't particularly scary as other resident evil games, but some parts are creepy. There are many jump scare moments throughout the game.
The boss battles are challenging & can be annoying at times. As resident evil 4 did, quick time events occur throughout.
The graphics are great for a wii game & the CG cutscenes look very lifelike.

Overall this game is a great alternative to the traditional RE games. You will want to replay levels to get S rank & get the many unlockables.

Overall: 8/10
Graphics:9/10
Gameplay:8/10
Replayability:8/10

Very poor game, stupidly frustrating!! don't get it!! - By: Lucy, 01 Jun 2010
Let me first say i'm a massive resi fan, i've got near enough every resi game released when i hear a new game is being released i actually get butterflies sad i know lol

Resi has come a far way from the ps1 & its great to see the improvements throughout the games, however resident evil darkside chronicles is by far the worse resi game i've played even worse than resi evil outbreak on the ps2 & that was bad!

The graphics are nice not brillant but nice nothing compared to resident evil wii edition which are awesome! The gameplayin general is poor i agree with another reviewer when they say it feels like your being pulled along by a rope defo agree with this 100%!!!
The controls are slow unresponsive & sluggish, the sounds effects are good though. To be honest i've played on this game for about 30minutes i couldn't bare to play on it anymore its really really frustrating!!

For me personally the best resi games on the wii are Resident evil wii edition & Umberella chronicles which is ALOT better than darkside, umberella chronicles also has its faults but it is much more enjoyable to play.
Maybe i was expecting to much from this game, for the money i paid i feel really ripped off i'm more that likely going to trade it in.
Sorry capcom but this is a poor performance!!! sort it out!!
Great for gamers who like resident evil - By: S. E. Wainwright, 15 Mar 2010
This game was really fun & kept my attention all the way throughout

If you like resident evil & games that have quite good graphics, then this is a good game to play. You can customise your own weapons & you can decide whether or not to finish on a good or sad ending.
Its the best Resident Evil game out of them all that I have played on the Wii & will still play it again when I have finished.

You can choose which character to play on missions: From choice of Leon S Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Steve Burnside etc..

Some parts may get you jumping out of your seats, - crying from a sad part of the game & some parts were you are relieved to finish the mission as it can jump up at youin some scenes.

A 'reccommend' as a gift for someone or just for purely selfish reasons..!!
