My Ashes 2009 cricket review - By: G. Mclaughlin, 21 Jun 2010
The game is fun to play but with any Cricket game, batting is always more fun.

Slogging sixes out of the ground is very satisfying & you can do this on easy level all the time, normal occasionally but expert is tough & probably reaslistic, having to choose front/back foot for your shots. I did like the range of batting shots too, especially on expert level timing is everything & you can push the ball wide of the slip for a quick four or smash it down the wicket if you can time it right.

I love the commentaryin this game, some funny entertaining statements from the commentators & the pitches & players are well represented.

As a non-cricket player/person I did enjoy this game, it has loads of options especially when fielding which I'm sure the crickt expert will understand & enjoy.

Not great - By: Mr. Matthew G. Bardell, 19 Jun 2010
This game is weird,in the way that it isn't as good as the PS2 version 'Cricket 07' which had more teams & the graphics was actually better
One of the best cricket games out there - By: Mark Palfreeman, 16 Mar 2010

Cricket is understandably a difficult sport to convert to a console atmosphere based on quick results & short attention spans. However, within those confines Ashes 2009 doesn't do a bad attempt.

Batting is simple, but very effective, allowing a wide range of movements & shots around a full 360 degree axis. The loft function also allows for decent shots to be played over the outfield, & it seems a fairly realistic combination of shot timing & selection that makes for wickets.
Bowling is again simple with the typical place & drop bowl system, accompanied nicely with an array of bowling types from cutters to swingers that can genuinely have an effect against batsman & offer the opportunity to make the most of bowlers.

The game takes into account the confidence of batters & bowlers when playing shots or bowling, both of which are effected by outcomes such as boundaries, played & missed, mis-timed shots etc... At leastin longer forms of the game it requires patience as would real test cricket.

The fielding is decidedly suspect & becomes somewhat comical as fielders trot to the boundary slowly or bowlers look the wrong way to receive a throw. But as this is the same for both sides it does little to diminish enjoyment, simply takes something from the realism of the game.

All the test & the major one day international sides are available to play, with the option to edit players abilities & add a small selection of created players to play with. It offers players the opportunity to update squads, although it is annoyingly not possible to edit either Australian or English squads as they are both licensed.

As seems to be the case with most cricket games, playing against the computer can be difficult & at times tedious, but the game has a simulation mode to 'fast forward' where necessary. There is however stadiums to unlock & awards allocated which make such a challenge more rewarding.
Online can be difficult because of the time it takes to complete a game, but offers much again for those with patience. But evenin the test arena it can at times be a little easy to start whacking the ball to all corners of the ground.

For someone who understands the pace of cricket, & enjoys the sport I would recommend this game. It may not be perfect, but it is very playable.
fun for a while?! - By: Mr. Marc W. Vardy, 06 Mar 2010
just brought this game as it finally went cheap so gave it ago & although it is good fun to start with it get boring/annoying very quickly its all to unrealistic if you bring a spinner on every ball will be a 4 or a 6 & then when a fast bowler comes on even a yorker 7 times out of 10 will just be smashed to the boundary. i just think with a little more effort it could be a good game so lets wait & see for the next one to come out
Awesome cricket game! - By: A. Khan, 20 Dec 2009
This is a great cricket game for any cricket enthuastic! Stunning graphics combined with variety of old cricketers commentery makes it a surreal experience. However the biggest let down is licesnced teams. Only two teams are licencsed, Australia & England. Rest all the teams are left with funny names & totally different faces. It's s main let down. However if u play at hard level, it feels almost like a real game. Missfielding, edge & some real bowling & batting skills required for hard level. I findtgis game extremely fascinating & willbe looking forward for the next update from code masters!
