Surprising fun - By: S. Ajih, 09 Jul 2010
If you like games like Devil May Cry you will like this game.
For me I liked it a lot because it had more things added to the game like rankingin each battle, the amount of weapons you can obtain, witch time & torture attacks. Tasks that they give you are simple & do not ruin the speed & fun of the game like puzzlesin the same genre.
Other games just have a maximum of 4 weapons to choose from. Sometimes new weapons do not even matter or don't suit your playing style. Bayonetta has loads of weapons to choose from & you will be finding yourself swapping them around just for fun. Puzzlesin other games are to occupy the player, butin Bayonetta they are just short little situations that do not ruin the pace of the game . Id rather be slaying whatever the game throws at me than long puzzles that could frustrate me.
The only thing missing is some sort of horde mode where endless enemies come at you. That would be fun. And the difficulty can be hard when your new but gets easier with more playing hours.
Bayonneta - By: Luke Thrower, 03 Jul 2010
Bayonneta is developed by Sega & is a real action game, packed with devastatingly powerful combos & large enemie battles.
===Story===
Bayonneta is basically the players hunt for their memories & to learn about her history, whilst kicking a considerable amount of angel arse.
Travelling through many different cities & areas , aided by your informant Enzo, you are also trying to discover the eyes of the world. The eyes were split into two parts, left & right. Bayonneta beleives the gem she holds is the left eye, but by finding the other , maybe that will also help discover her past.
Now this story was pretty difficult to follow as their is constantly new characters turning up, not only this but its more of a cover for them making a game to sell off the highly popular, Devil may cry. The storyline doesn't always seem to fitin with what your asked to do & it can feel slightly random at times.
===Characters===
Bayonetta is a witch, who uses both magic, kicks & firearms to take down everyone & anythingin her path. Add to this the power to shapeshift & you get a pretty powerful character, however whilst she is very cool on the outside, we never get any depth & bar a few moments , it could have been anyone walking aroundin the game. I felt no real link with her & you feel she is just a way of showing off the great fighting of the game.
Other supporting characters are:
Enzo, who provides some much needed comedy
Luka, a love interest of Bayonneta
Jeane , the main rival
Balder, the main enemy of the whole game
And Rodin, who you can buy new weapons & items
===Game===
Its a 3rd person , action & shooting game. Produced by the same man who made the Devil may cry series & the similarities are all very clear to see, bothin design & gameplay.
Using a varied amount of attacks , either up close or from range. You also have special finishers & torture moves, 2 examples from earlyin the game are summoning a massive high heel to rip through time & kick the enemy out of the area, or , creating a massive gullotine,in which you repeatedly beat the enemy down till their head rests on the block & then off chops their head. Counter attacks also have a partin "witch time" wherein classic gaming style, dodging gives you a few seconds to unleash all hell on the enemy.
Transformations mainly consist of becoming , my personal favorite a panther, or a handful of other creatures. These allow you to do new abilities as well as enhancing others.
In a game so violent , you wouldn't expect it to be lollipops that healed you after a hard days battle.
Being sega , collecting is also important & so sorrounding the world is Sonic rings , sorry "halo's". I really cant see that this was done by accident , they are exactly the same & dont really add anything to the game apart from looking out of place. Their main use is as the games currency but im sure a more elegant way could have been thought up.
Finishing the level you are rankedin medals, either gold, silver or bronze. A nod to the creators other game , Viewtiful joe. Medals are also hiddenin the map & unlocked through challenges , but I never felt the need to wander off & find them.
===Control===
Moving bayonneta round with the sticks is really smooth & so is moving the camera. All the attacks are on the 4 action buttons & these were very simple to remember.
Double tapping the X button allowed you to double jump for extra heightin attacks. Jumpingin the game isn't the best as it can feel a little floaty & so its hard to judge your movement.
If you play the game on very easy, you only play the game with the 4 action buttons & the game takes care of the rest.
===Sound===
A rather strange j-pop song likes to playin the background & this felt really out of context for the game. To be honest it means during fight sequences I couldn't hear the guns firing or kicks hitting, it was all just an entrancing pop song.
===Graphics===
The graphicsin the game are of a very good standard. Considering the amount of stuff happening on screen it always runs smooth & its easy to see all the weapons & magic happening.
The sorrounding areas are also well designed , buildings & interiors all fit the gothic structure of the game & make it nicer to play.
The small detailsin the game make it beautiful, all paving stones have individual details & the clouds which fly across the ground look eerie.
===Overall===
An ok action game , if you were a fan of Devil may cry you will probably enjoy this. A demo is available on PSN I beleive & the game has a whole will probably give around 50 hours of play if your trying it on difficult & trying to get everything.
great gameplay - By: Peter Schmidt, 14 Jun 2010
If you're a fan of games like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden, this is a game for you.
Bayonetta is great fun, & the combat is complex, though not as satisfying or precise as it isin Devil May Cry.
The story leaves something to be missed, so dont expect a deep, well narrated story. It's there, but it's not well told, nor is it very interesting.
The game has some interesting characters though, so story-wise it's not all bad.
For the current, & lowered price, Bayonetta is well worth the money, & you will have plenty to do with the game. great replay value as well.
Bayawhoa? - By: Iain Wark, 23 May 2010
As Boyonetta is going so cheap, I'd recommend giving it a go. There's really nothing to add to what's already been said by the other reviewers. Suffice to say, the game is nuts!
Don't expect any kind of narrative coherence, as it's all over the place. One really annoying thing is the cut scenes. Truly, truly abysmal! I have NO idea what purpose they were serving as they added nothing to the game IMHO.
If you think you won't be able to play it because you're not so good at multiple combo games like Devil May Cry, then rest assured you'll manage with Bayonetta. I suck at DMC, but managed with this. That said, it was more luck than judgement some times & some battles did have me tearing my hair out!
I don't think I'll be playing it again, as i have no real interestin gathering the trophies & a harder difficulty than normal would send me to an insane asylum! But, it kept me entertained for a few weekends & for £13 or so, you can't ask more than that!
At last, a game you don't need to learn hundreds of moves for!!! - By: B. Cousins, 12 May 2010
I won't go into detailed information about the game as this will spoil some aspects, I will say things that have been includedin the demo version though.
As has been mentioned, this game isin the Devil May Cry vein, but it is a new type of gamein itself. The control system is excellentin that there are literally loads of button combinations so you can tap awayin whatever manner & you will pull of some good moves. Bayonetta can attackin a full 360 degree circle, she has four guns to make use of, twoin the hands & two attacked to her ankles. She can flip onto her hands & so spin her legs around to shoot enemies which I find classic. Then there is the chance to unlock other weapons which can be bought with halos collected from killing angels, bosses & destroying scenery. And with Bayonetta herself, she can utilise her magic to form a "weave attack" which consists of enchanting her hair (which also forms her clothing) to attack with, this can bein the form of a giant fist or a beast that can crunch enemies.
There are also special moves which entail punishing enemies, you can hurl them into an iron maiden or put them into a guillotine, these are moves that can be performed during fights as you build up your magic meter which is great! You can also buy more moves & items to regain health, magic from the shop. The storyline is quite lighthearted & the "english" accent of Bayonetta is quite amusing. The cutscenes can be viewed as a bit odd by some people but I feel it tells the story well enough, there will be stills as from a mvoie reel rather than charcters always moving when the cutscenes occur.
The indroduction of "witch Time" rather than block is a great inovation as it means you cannot just stand there & take what enemies throw at you & take no damage, you have to doge the attack & if you time it right the Witch Time gives you a few seconds of speeded up play where you can pound the enemies even further.
The bosses are a bit surrealin looks, some have the face of a baby for example, but his just adds to the game's uniqueness.
For this price, the game is well worth the buy! And if you like trophies it is challenging to try & aquire them, so gives a lot of reply value, & you will not be able to collect all the items, weapons on just one play through!
