Brilliant - By: D. Evans, 14 Nov 2008
Bioshock is one of the best games I've played on the PS3, & certainly one of the best first person shooters. It's also one of the few games that I'd consider playing again from start to finish.

One of the game's highlights is its original & fascinating setting. The story takes placein the year 1960,in an underwater city called Rapture. The city was built by Andrew Ryan as a utopia for like-minded individuals with an unwavering beliefin free enterprise & laissez faire capitalism. Yet the city they have built for themselves has fallen apart. It is here that Jack (the character you play) enters the scene.
Jack's plane crashesin the middle of the Atlantic Ocean & he finds himself at the very gates of Rapture. Taking a bathysphere to the city, he finds himself stuckin a society filled with genetically altered mutants who don't particularly like strangers.

This short synopsis doesn't cover the depth of the fully realised world containedin the game, or the plot, which is filled with surprising twists & turns. The decisions you takein the game will also affect the type of game you play. You can choose to help the people of Rapture or exploit them for your own benefit. The path you choose will determine the difficulty of the game, as well as the ending.

The city of Rapture itself is beautifully displayed. The graphics for the game are brilliant, from the characters to the setting. The effects are also great, from the water-flooded tunnels, to melting ice to raging fires.

In terms of game play, it handles brilliantly. The controls are easy to learn, while there's plenty of weapons to choose from, including pistols, machine guns, crossbows, flame throwers, trip mines, shotguns etc. This is not to mention that you can genetically modify your body giving you access to all sorts of powers from shooting flames & electricity from your fingers, to telekinesis. You can also take advantage of your environment, for instance, you can kill several enemies at once by shooting an electric bolt into the water pool they are standing in. This makes you consider your moves - sometimes the best strategy is to use stealth, at other times you just have to goin with all guns blazing.

The game is also effective at creating mood & atmosphere, & there's plenty of variety to be had. Sometimes it can get eerie wandering through empty corridors, at other times it can be exhilarating when you are facedin a gunfight. The game makes a good balance between horror & action.

If the game has any negatives, it's that it takes a lot of memory to install (it took me 20 minutes to install the game) & it's often difficult to navigate. You'll sometimes find yourself wandering roundin circles for half an hour, only to realise that you have to enter a tiny passage hidden near a table. This can cause quite a bit of frustration, but it doesn't detract from the overall game.

Overall, the game has brilliant controls, great visuals, an effective soundtrack, & an interesting, engrossing story & setting. If you one a PS3, & you'd like a good first person shooter, then Bioshock is a must have. Highly Recommended!

A truly stunning and emersive game - By: MisterDerp, 06 Nov 2008
Here is my usual 'trademark' review:

GOOD POINTS:
+ Staggeringly good graphics & animations
+ Breathtaking Water & Fire effects
+ As immersive as any game out there
+ Chilling, cinema style presentation that any blockbuster movie would be proud of
+ Exclusive PS3 only DLC
+ Quite a large game

BAD POINTS:-
- Most of the graphical/technical glitches are there from the PC/Xbox360 versions
- Still no multi=player modes
- New difficuly level is very tough indeed

SUMMARY: Bioshock is still one of the best shooters ever released & it goes without saying, if you haven't played Bioshock yet, you need to experience what the hype is all about. No PS3 owner who doesn't have a 360 should be without a brand spanking new copy of Bioshockin their collection of games. Bioshock is just too good to overlook. The only real negative point to hash out about the PS3 porting of Bioshock deals with some minor graphical hiccups & the promise of future exclusive content. It would have been nice to have some exclusives besides an ultra-tough extra level of difficulty. For the good side of the port, challenge room downloadable content is on its way this month & trophies are fully support on launch. Revisit Rapture & explore the one of the best shooters ever released.

BioShock. Game of the YEAR??? - By: N. T. Ebanks, 31 Oct 2008
Many people have asked the question, what will be game of the year?

With this game already out on the Xbox 360 & PC. It still packs a wrench wallop of a hit on the PS3 (with the gameplay, graphics & artificial intelligence improved from the Xbox 360 & PC versions).

With the FPS genre considerably over packed, this is still one of the best FPS that will ever come out. Bioshock is definitely a FPS. But it is more than just a that,in the way that is also an action/adventure & a survival horror at times. Andin the way that this game cannot be compared to other games because it's that good & that it is completely different to any other game.

By many games such as the Call of Duty series & many other games, online is the main part of that game & they put a lot of effort into the online system. Bioshock also show that you don't have to have online play to create a fantastic game.

This is definitely one of my favourite games of all time & I cannot wait for the sequel. I highly recommend Bioshock. I would give this game 97%.
Amazing - By: J. Cook, 31 Oct 2008
This game has an storyline that keeps you compelled to play on, the game play length is huge. The game play is a solid first person shooter with amazing set pieces that gives you that wow feeling. The graphics are superb & almost rivals unchartedin visuals.

There are a large line up of new ps3 games coming soon but bioshock is not too be missed, value for money & will keep you going for hours.

A must have....
