Brilliant - By: Mr. Joseph L. Wilford, 11 Nov 2008
I fail to understand all the criticism.
Get a wireless x-box 360 controller for your PC, plugin & play. The graphics have been criticised a few times for some reason but I think they look great: good player likenesses & a crisp, clean overall look. The gameplay is vastly superior to the last version & it plays an excellent game of football. The 50-50 challenges are NOT always won by the computer; you must be doing something badly wrong as for me they are dependant on the player's strength & skill.
Defending is good: cover the passes, close the space. When they score you don't feel cheated, it feels like you made a mistake & was punished. Attacking is also well done: through balls are not always pefect but that adds to the realism (even Stevie G gets a few wrong!). Shooting takes a bit of getting used to but becomes second nature & creates some great moments. Crossing & heading is much improved on older versions & it all feels smooth & right.
Andin terms of the argument about how many teams are licenced: its a daft argument. The player names are spot on & it is just club names & badges that are not official. The solution is not to buy FIFA - just patch it! You own a PC, the patch exists - dowload it...no more whinging!
Overall this comes highly reccomended. The excellent menus & presentation adds the the wondeful game of football it plays. If you love & understand football - buy this. If you don't, cant stand sometimes losing or are under the age of 12 - buy FIFA.
Same old same old.... - By: G. F. Chalmers, 06 Nov 2008
I feel bad doing this to a game I have tried to love over the past decade but have come to terms with the fact the game I cherished all those years ago is now gone. Why you ask....
I will not enter into a debate on whether Fifa 2009 is better & the like. We all know Fifa has always been dropped out of a dogs bottom for years on the PC (The X-box version is not bad). However, Pro evolution soccer 2009 for the PC is a pale shadow of the game it claims to be. One single test remains, one game, two teams, play as Germany against say, Thailand the worst teamin the game? And what happens; every Thai player plays like they are Pele! I have played this game for two weeks & yet we have some pretty stupid games. I played as the Czech Republic & yet against lower teams I struggled. The wet weather is supposed to be the great difference but yet the worst playersin the game can run rings around the very best. Is this football? Or just an arcade button mash.
Defending is running behind the opposition player waiting for them to shoot as you push the A button so hard, it does nothing, you dare not slide tackle as your man would be booked or sent from the field. Every opposition player can run faster than your superstar even Wright-Philips is a lard arse compared to the worst Canadian player. They are quick too; snappy passing mover & running into space... We are talking about Northern Ireland & Wales!!! Your players don't move until you get control of them by that time the opposition has the ball & descending onto your goal. Let's say nothing about the 50-50 ball. The computer will win everyone.
So where does this series go from here; No licences, no real competitions & a Champions League that feels empty without every team. I used to love playing this game when you could be a big team breaking down the opposition or be the little team getting that little break against the big boys why can't this be the way the game is than just the fact the computer controlled player is faster. All gimmicks & no craft this game is very shallow.
Restin peace the Pro evolution series.
Great stuff from Konami! - By: Tom Cushion, 03 Nov 2008
Having previously owned only PES4,but played all the others, i found this new game to be a brilliant addition to the series. The gameplay is great, & although you still can't win free-kicks it seems, i am still addicted by it.
Even though only two prem teams are licensed, the new image importation option & the great kit realisms to the real thing mean you can practically licence all the other teams.
The edit mode is great overall with the ability to make new players very lifelike & you can change the kits brilliantly well, just like previous editions.
The become a legend mode is a great feature, as is the new Champions League mode.
Overall, a fantastic addition to the series, I AM ADDICTED!
Deary dear Konami, when will you learn................ - By: G. P. E. Hunt, 24 Oct 2008
After the train wreck that was Pro Evo 2008, I was really hoping to see a return to form from Konami & the Seabass team, I made the mistake of spending £50.00 on the PS3 version on its 1st day of release. What I got was arguably one of the worst games Ive ever bought (its up there with ET on Atari 2600 & Race Drivin on SNES) & without a doubt the most dreadful football game I've ever played. This time around I economised & purchased the PC version. Here are my thoughts.
"For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES & the real thing. The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look & move even more like their real-life counterparts"
Having read this you would think they would have learnt from last years shocker. To be fair lets start with the positives, the slowdown which occured every time you got near the box has gone & playing online apparently doesnt seem to resultin players teleporting to keep up with the lag.
However what Konami hasnt done is change the gameplay. The control mechanics are just so stale, there still seems to be no way of passing with any conviction & the through ball is a complete lottery. Free kicks seems to end upin 1 of 2 situations, you blast the ball way too high or the ball goes into the wall. I also dont understand why it's so difficult to take on the computer, attempting to dribble around the players is a waste of time. Passing seems to be the only option but not for the computer. Also why is it more or less imposssible to put any ammount of spin on a shot? Why do your players run away from dead ball situations & why does the computer seem to win more or less every 50-50 tackle, why do your players never seem to getin the box when you attack down the wings & put a ball into the box, believe me I could carry on but I think that you get the point.
Another thing that I have to bring up is the animation, it seems to be getting worse since Pro Evo 6, players run like Quasimodo! Also why are the benches not animated? I mean they have kind of made the crowd semi realistic but the managers & subs are motionless?
I just dont understand why Konami go to the trouble of getting 2 premier teams each year & then add terrible chant effects, listen to the Liverpool ones, honestly it sounds like they got a bunch of Japanese studentsin a recording studio for 5 minutes........ its utterly hopeless.
Well there are my thoughts, if I were you I would give this a miss & either save your money or buy Fifa 09. More or less every review I've read has come to the opinion that Fifa plays a superior game of footie. My my, how times have changed..........
Rubbish - By: Pedro1969, 21 Oct 2008
This game couldnt be worse. Poor graphics & gameplay. Played it once & returned it. Awful.
