Installs but will not run on my Toshiba laptop (graphics card issue) - By: sir_isaac_newton, 21 Nov 2008
A family member installed this birthday present on my laptop w/o asking me. It installed but will not run on my Toshiba Satellite laptop. Instead an error is displayed saying the graphics card is not good enough to run it! I had the same problem with Microsoft WWII combat flight simulator.

I don't know if Creature Creator has the same undesirable Digital Rights Management issues as the main Spore game, as we never got to install that. But had I known, I would have barred installation of both, as it can supposedly interfere with CD-RW drivers. Both Spore & Spore Creature Creator will be returned for a refund, as not fit for purpose/not of merchanisable quality, leaving a very disappoint child & peaved parents & grandparents. :(

Don't bother - By: Old_Timer, 10 Sep 2008
Read the American reviews. This game can only be activated 3 times because of rubbish DRM. Stick it EA.
Contains malware, poorly thought out end game, buggy - By: Mr. D. Copeland, 06 Sep 2008
Once reaching the space-age you realise that it is nothing more than a series of minigames, shoot pirates with your ship, do repetitive missions. There are no macromanagement features, you must attend your homeworld every time it is attacked, even if its capable of defending itself without you because they accuse you of not helping. This does not add a challenge, it adds boredom & frustration.

This also contains the malware SecuROM, this limits the installs of the disc to three, if you install it on 3 machines thats it your disc is now useless, if you upgrade your hardware 3 times your disc is useless, if you have to uninstall for space, if there are errorsin installing the game they can all make the disc uselss after three installs, either forcing you to buy another copy, crack it or not play. Essentially EA are renting software which you are purchasing, here is how SecuROM works:

No installation option for SecuROM? Check.
Installed without my knowledge or consent? Check.
EULA for malware containedin a hidden directory so I cannot read it? Check.
Games bundled with SecuROM malware? Check.
Difficult for me to identify, locate & remove it? Check.

And the final nailin the coffin is the amount of bugs, including but not limited to:

* Random crashing (primarilyin the Space Stage)
o Many cases is when zooming out to galaxy from Homeworld
o Dasmx86Dll.dll is the cause mostly.
* The bug related to the DasmX86Dll.dll file & the WINMM.dll file
o Also people have got the d3dx.dll error. (I think thats spelt correctly)
* SPORE not loading upon startup
* Unable to download user content
* License Server Issues
* Graphical Glitches
o Texture Corruption (In some cases, Major corruption)
o Main menu freeze
o Planet fine, Galaxy map just black (Toolbars etc still work)
* Mobile Graphics Card Issues (Even supported ones)
* Possible SECUROM issues
* Public Content / Buddy Sharing issues
* EA Downloader not detecting SPORE installation
Well, duh it's a demo ¬_¬ - By: Jack Walker, 05 Sep 2008
It's exactly the same as The Sims 2 Body Shop. This is why clever people like me only downloaded the trial version with 25% of the creator features included. It's exactly the same, but with less stuff. It gives you a feel for what the game will be like, & still manages to be relatively amusing & creatively stimulating. The reason I've given it a low fun score is because, let's be honest, all you're doing is fiddling with a spine & attaching a few limbs. Hardly fun. However! It does challenge you from a design point of view. I've spent lots of time creating interesting-looking insectoids, humanoids...random alien thingies I couldn't name even if I tried. I anticipate that the actual Spore game - which should be arrivingin a matter of hours - will be highly entertaining & will keep me occupied for a long period. It's your own silly fault for buying the creature creator...what did you expect from it? You can't very well complain about something you did. After all...the aim of a business is to turn a profit. Is EA not a business? Cut them some slack: if they've got imbecilic customers it's hardly their fault.
Significant technical problems on the PC version - By: Ed F, 03 Sep 2008
Right from the start there are significant problems using this product with several technical challenges involvedin even getting the game to start properly including removing dll files from the installed game & replacing them with new ones from the spore website, never mind the infuriating habit of only adding shortuts to the Vista "game explorer" tab rather than on the desktop orin a normal menu.

Once you do get the programme to work it looks lovely however there are more challengesin store for unaware purchasers if your creature gets even slightly complex the programme hangs when you try to save it.

Looks like EA have released a barely tested excuse for a finished product, if Spore the game is this poorly executed i'll be very disapointed.

AVOID.
