not bad of a game to kill time. - By: Tsu Y. Nieh, 11 Nov 2008
This is actually the 9th final fantasy game I have played. Funny that I have been very backward about Final fantasy but I amin the UK & the first FF game was the absolute classic 7th.
Anyway, this is nothing like other final fantasy games that have fixed characters & extremely long storyline. This game is a bit like Might & Magic that you need to decide your own jobs & character but the stats are fixed though.
One of the bad points about FF games is that they usually have no replay value. Not the version instalment. You can try different combination of the jobs & create your different parties.
Supporting magic is more helpful than later ff games becausein later games, your character can be trained so strong that you can hit to damage cap. No way that can happenin FF1.
Bosses are actually tougher because their defences are high enough to nullify your attacks.
You can finish the game about 15 hours & 10 hours if you play it again. I believe you might finishin 5 if you are fast game mania. Therefore, the slightly boring storyline is not much of a concern.
Because you can create you own party & level them up again so it is pretty good for killing time when you are for example, waiting for buses. Near end extra dungeon consist some interesting puzzle levels that are pretty fun to play.
Classic game remake from the past. 4 stars because of boring storyline & old control system.
A straightforward arcade style game. - By: John Nunn, 26 Sep 2008
I have never played any of the Final Fantasy games so when I bought a PSP I decided it was time to at least try one. I have found the game to be addictive & easy to play. The graphics are clear, & easy to see on the small screen. The only real drawback is the lack of engaging storyline to drive you forward. The world is quite large & as you move round you find small elements of plot but these are very small & don't help that much.
For the price & ease of game play this is a must buy as it can provide a little distraction whilst waiting for something else, but I don't find it engages my attention for much more than half an hour at a time.
NOT the first FF on a handheld - By: charles snickets, 22 Jun 2008
I've played this game & basically all that happens is that you get told your some kind of legendary warriors & plonked(thats right, plonked) into a world to figure out what to do. Practically nadda to tell you what to do & absolutely MINIMUM storyline to get enveloped in. So if it's the great storylines of the latter gamesin the Final Fantasy series your interested in(like me), this game really isn't for you.
Im mainly writing this just to clarify this isn't the first Final Fantasy on a hand held (like statedin a previous review), & that FF 3,4,5, & 6 are available for the GameBoy SP/Advance & DS. I would recommend 4,5 & 6 if your thinking of investingin some retro FF (5 having a similar job based battle system to this one).
The First Of A Phenomenon - By: Mr. Robert E. Coady, 19 Jun 2008
Well if your a fan of the Final Fantasy games then I would say that you should recommend buying this as it's the very first Final Fantasy & so far the best remake. The reason why I brought this game was because I just wanted to know what the story was about to the very first game of Final Fantasy but when I started playing I was immediatly addicted.
Here's what I think about the game...
1)Gameplay=9/10. The gameplay may not be as long as some Final Fantsy games & there's not really any side quests on here. In fact there's none at all but it still keeps you wanting to play more & increase your levels. I'm roughly about 10 hours into it & my characters are at level 25. Also the main characters (4 of them) don't have a main name. You just have to make up your own name for them.
2)Graphics=8/10. The graphics aren't exactly PSP graphics because it's a remake but they've made the characters a tiny bit cartoony which is perfect because it doesn't look rubbishin pretty much no way at all.
3)Sounds=9/10. As with any Final Fantasy game it has amazing sounds especially during battle sequences & short video clips where the game is telling you about a certain part of the story. Every city has a different piece of music that goes to it & there all great bits of music that are sure to get stuckin your head when your trying to get to sleep. I don't think there's a single bit of the game that doesn't have sounds unless there's a specific reason as to why it doesn't have sounds.
The first FF game I ever played was X-2 not knowing at the time that it was a sequel of X. I also thought that all the FF games were linked to one story & that all the characters werein every game. So I thought that Yuna, Rikku & Paine had beenin every other FF. How wrong I was but yeah overall I would say that this is a must have game if your a fan of FF.
Bye bye social life... - By: J. McNamara, 28 Mar 2008
The first gamein the epic Final Fantasy series is now available on PSP & its great. The graphics have been updated since the NES days & looks positively nice on the little handheld.
The gameplay is really good. Its a good premise, with certain items needing to be found to unlock a new area, to get new stuff etc. It has a lot of play valuein it & you may well find yourself stuck.
I have racked up almost 10 hours of play already on this & I'm only about half way through. If you like your games long & deep there is no better buy than this, especially at this price.
