World of Warcraft MMORPG - By: G. Buchanan, 05 Jan 2009
I bought this pack just after the Lich King expansion pack (which I haven't needed yet) came out. I have thoroughly enjoyed levelling up my characters & exploring the game world as I learned my way about & how to play to a reasonable standard.
There is no doubt that the game maps are huge & it does take some time getting about. This is offset by the fun level of the travelling - flying over different maps on a gryphon or hippogriff can be very entertaining & WOW even has different skies & weather according to the time of day! In addition some of the quests can be quite amazing - the one where you kill Tethyrin Theramore is quite different from most of the questing within the game & great fun.
To be honest after the first week or so I stopped using the enclosed guides & I haven't yet got to the point of needing the Burning Crusade because my characters aren't high enough level. Despite all those web sites saying that you can level your character to 70 or 80 within a few days if you're new to the game it probably won't happen that fast. You're much better taking time to get to know the game areas & enjoy playing it. I've got to the stage of using online levelling guides some of the way & just grabbing every questin sight & doing what I want the rest of the time.
WOW is very addictive & there are so many different things to doin it that it'll be some time before most players get bored with it. However before you start playing there will be very large downloads - mine were well over 1 GBin total & took several evenings to complete. Patience is the key here & once the downloads were complete & I was able to play I found it to be well worth the effort.
You don't have to pay to play right away - the gamein this box is free for the first month & then your credit card will be charged or you can buy the 60 day credit card from Amazon or one of the WOW distributorsin the high street. So you've plenty of time to decide for yourself.

Do not buy !!!!! I have just bought this & have spent the past 4 hours just downloading patches. There is no way to stop this & I have just got a patch for 3.9 gigs so I wont be playing today. Dont buy for kids on christmas or you might have a roit.
Huge downloads required - By: Mark Webb, 15 Dec 2008
World of Warcraft is a great game, no question about that.
In commenting on this well packaged & bargain priced box set I should point out to other fellow newbies that there is a VERY large learning curve involved before you can even begin seriously playing the game.
The books enclosed are comprehensive & detailed (although with tiny print) but by now made outdated by the many updates to the game. However, there is good support from the Blizzard website & a vast amount of material is available out there to inform you on the intricacies of WOW community.
And on the subject of updates, after installing the two DVD program disks, which was a quick & easy process, I was asked to perform a series of updates before I could begin playing the game, nearly two gigabytes of downloads. Not even fast updates - on my 8M broadband connection I was obtaining download speeds of around 100k from the Blizzard servers. The full series of downloads would take some six or seven hours as the rate fluctuated up & down.
When it is all over, the downloads & the study sessions, then WOW is an amazing experience. But you do have to ask yourself if it is all worth it.
Beware of Gamesbuyer! - By: S. Bowyer, 23 Oct 2008
I ordered this from Gamesbuyer thinking it would arrive quicker than from IndigoStarfish. They offer "lightning fast delivery" & they even give the option of paying extra for 1 - 2 day delivery. A week later & i still dont have it. Order from indigostarfish!
Reasonable value - By: J. Horrocks, 10 Aug 2008
The games themselves have been well coveredin other reviews, but one thing to bearin mind is that they are constantly evolving, having new content added, being adjustedin various ways. Including guide booksin this box is nice for complete beginners, but they are largely out of date or incomplete. The Burning Crusade guide glosses over the bulk of that expansion & only covers the first zonein any great detail. If you want to explore the vast wealth of information to be found about this game then you really need to be using any of the myriad online websites about it (preferably not the ones selling gold & harbouring trojans & viruses!) or the official game discussion forums on wow-europe.com.
Unlike the original releases, this box set comes with a single DVD for each game rather than upto 5 CDs, so installing it is much simpler & less time consuming.
What they don't tell you is that the version on the discs is not the current one being played. There is no way it could be, it evolves so fast. At the moment World of Warcraft is at version 2.4.2 and, having just reinstalled the game from the Battlechest discs, I am now having to download a 1.1Gb (yes, Gb) patch. Depending on your connection speed, that could be quite a wait before you can play!
