Amazing - By: D. Ian, 25 Aug 2008
This game is simply amazing. In my view much better than Guitar Hero. Why?
The amount of content available for download is outstanding, they release at least 3 new songs every week & throwin an album every now & then. Plus the tracks are cheaper than Guitar Hero tracks (and you're getting 4x you're moneys worth due to the amount of instruments).
The gameplay is better, everything you wish Guitar Hero did backin the day Rock Band does & so much more; for instance the goofy circular dome things that represent notesin Guitar Hero are replace with sleaker & more precise bar.
Compatibility. Every guitar for GH will work on Rockband but not vice versa (GH refused to do this so Activision are to blame). Also 90% of the tracks you have for Rock Band 1 you will be able to play onin Rock Band 20.
At the end of the day Guitar Hero really have had their pants pulled down over this one, makes you wonder why didn't they think of this? No need to rant about the pricing of the bundle either, they explained on the official RB website that the differencein price between the US bundle & the UK bundle was due to the fact that everything game-wise (inaccurate explanation i know) costs more to make/ship/sell/whatever over here. So don't boycott this & miss out when you could be rocking out with you're friends.
Fun until the novelty wears off. - By: Mr. Christopher P. Crossan, 24 Jul 2008
Played this with 6-7 friends a couple of weeks ago at a party. We played for a couple of hours before becoming bored & moving on to other games. I found the novelty factor of this game wore off incredibly quickly. The whole "band" gimmick will ensure it shifts plenty of boxes, but to be honest I can't fathom how these types of games became so popular. Pressing coloured buttonsin the right sequence doesn't spell fun for me, & if I want to sing i'll make a night of it & go to a karaoke barin Chinatown!
Game Review, not price - By: Mrs. S. Gilbert, 20 Jul 2008
Since I'm reviewing the game itself, I would say that the price of the peripherals is terrible, but if you should choose to boycott it, the developers may cancel further shipping.
I rate the game a 5 starin terms of fun. The guitar segments of the game have a guitar-hero feel, with improved bass gameplay to suit the backupsin your new virtual band. Single player is therefore essentially Guitar Hero, minus the encores & purchased bonus songs (you must complete a bonus setlist to unlock these).
Fans of any songsin the game will definately enjoy vocals, even though working through the single player vocals can be tiring, & you probably won't find yourself going back to sing a lot like the other two.
The real bulk of the package & the reason to pick up Rock Bandin the first place is the drums. This is because the idea of a drumming game has never been properly done before (unless you count bongo drums as a form of drumming, which I sincerely hope you don't). As with the Guitar, the setlist works from easy to hard. I found that the easiest difficulty to start off with was medium. It may differ, because if you're a good drummer, I'd hit hard straight away.
When the whole band comes together, though, you experience something you've never experiencedin a video game before: social cooperation. You won't all be staring blankly at the screen, you'll be cheering, thrashing on the overdrive & hammering the big rock ending to seal your band's work to an overall score that you will all look back on & be proud of. And with the 360's DLC, there's a new song/pack/album every week!
Soin conclusion, pick it up, rock it, try everything, form a band, seal some achievements, & carry it on until Guitar Hero: World Tour hits shops this October.
Fun...but c'mon stop ripping us off. - By: A. B. Mckay, 18 Jul 2008
I'm giving this game 1 star because once again we are getting ripped off by Harmonix Music & Q Entertainment - songs are good but the fact that they sell you the disc alone for £40 & then another £90 odd for drums etc. is just stupid. They should have combined drums with the game & sold it for £65.
This game rocks! - By: Ruth Andrews, 05 Jul 2008
Ok, before I begin; I'm reviewing the GAME ITSELF, NOT THE PERIPHERALS, because they're too expensive for me. So people who have rated this one star are obviously unaware that this is just the game and/or you can use the Guitar Hero 3 controller along with the Xbox Live headset.
Now that's clear, I must tell you that this game is brilliant! A lot better than Guitar Hero 3,in my opinion. Firstly, being able to customise your band members is a real treat, & it's even better if your avatar looks like you. speaking of which, the graphics are a lot betterin Rock Band than Guitar Hero 3, although it doesn't necessarily matterin games like this. The setlist is fantastic, & this is reinforced with all the great downloadable songs from the Live Marketplace. Some of my favourite songs are on it! The Big Rock endings are a fun addition, as well as the solos, which tell you your percentage & you can use the bottom notes of the Stratoscaster Controller (which of course I don't have). The Band World Tour mode seems great, but as I don't have any peripherals & the headset doesn't have much input quality, I can't really justify this.
I have noticed that this game is A LOT easier than Guitar Hero 3, on which I could barely do any songs on Hard at all, but on here I can do nearly every single one, save the last ones. This may just be my controller, or just all Guitar Hero controllersin general, but I've noticed that some notes just don't get hit at all. It just doesn't read it. This isn't because I'm bad at the game, the thing just doesn't read it. However, this rarely happens, & it's not the end of the world if it does. Another annoyance is that the notes are too small, so it can be harder to accurately hit it, but you can easily get used to this. Speaking of notes, on the transition from normal to Overdrive (the Rock Band equivalent of Star Power), it's sometimes hard, if not impossible to see some of the notes, with is quite bad, as you can guess. The only gripe I have is the Band World Tour not being usable over Xbox Live. With this feature, this could easily be one of the best games ever. I hear EA/Harmonix are working on it, & hopefully it will see the light of day!
Now, let's go on to the 'money issue'. There is a way to get around this frankly ridiculous price of the full set, but you'll have to already own Guitar Hero 3 (2?) & a Xbox Live headset, so you probably won't save much, but it will feel as if you have. Just buy the game & the drums separately. This will give you The guitar/bass (as they both use the same controller), microphone & drums. If you want a complete band, just get your friend to bring their controller along. If they don't have one, tough luck.
I recommend this to anyone with a lot of money to waste or to anyone with a Guitar Hero 3 controller (most of you).
