A little word for the decrying fanboys. - By: Mr. Bw Sheers, 18 Jul 2008
I was at first a bit sceptical about getting this game. A lot of reviewers claimed that it was less addictive than the previous games, that the driving was terrible & the story slow. I can now quite cheerfully throw those misconceptions out of the window.
I have been playing it for about three days averaging a few hours each day & I am still not even 25% of the way through it. It is just huge there is no other way of putting it. The sheer detail that Rockstar have put into this game is staggering. From being able to look at your cash balance on ATM's to using binoculars on the beachfront you will constantly find reasons to just say 'wow'.
A fair few people claimed that this installment just wasn't as fun as the others & having owned or played nearly all the GTA games I amin a position to judge & the key word that all the critics are failing to take into account is Realism. Yes realism, that little thing that means you can't walk onto an army base & steal a tank or standin a huge crossfire with your health very slowly decreasing or just take a jet from an airbase & fly offin it.
I love realism. The way I can see the bullet holesin the side of my car & the beautiful, living city you are immersed in. If you want ridiculous scenarios & over the top gameplay then buy San Andreas. If you want one of the most gripping & enthralling games you will ever play then buy this.
The driving is actually quite easy to handle. There is a noticeable differencein handling between vehicles & when you get used to it then it becomes really enjoyable. The gunplay is a bit stiff & the auto-targeting has an annoying habit of locking onto civiliansin the middle of a shootout, there is a decent selection of guns to choose from & they all have their strengths an weaknesses.
I've played a few online matches & they were surprisingly fun. The character editor was pretty basic but the sheer joy of driving a sports car down a main street with bullets pinging off the sides & an SMG poking out of the window is unparalled.
The story is admittedly a bit slow starting but that is deceptive. Even as I write this I just took partin a huge shootoutin a construction yard so make no mistake. The action does heat up.
Overall, you really should buy this game because nothing else can quite match up to it & it is a decision you will not regret.
Highly addictive - By: Patricia, 15 Jul 2008
As soon as I started playing this game, I was hooked & resistant to put it down (until my brothers took me off it). It is absolutely excellentin every way- the graphics are pure art, the characters are imaginative, quirky & very funny! The in-game TV is hilarious, same as the in-game Internet.
The story is stunning & very interesting. The best missionin the game is when you have to rob a bank with a bunch of guys you work with- you must shoot through police & escape them. You really got to play that mission to see how fun it is!
The best thing about this game & all GTA games is the funny quotes which come from pedestrians, the radio & cut scenes! Now, is this the best GTA game? Now I wouldn't go that far. It's just as good as San Andreasin my opinion (which was an amazing game). One thing's for sure, this game is a thousand times better than Vice City & GTA 3. Buy this now!

dont listen to them.... - By: Mr. A. Alexander, 11 Jul 2008
dont listen to all the people that say it is exactly the same. it's incredible! the graphics are a work of art, the cars are beautiful, & you can have more fun on it than any other gta! i paid £45 for mine & i dont regret it! if you dont have this i would suggest that you buy it!
Not so sure - By: Mr. B. J. Roberts, 08 Jul 2008
For starters the game looks great. The graphics are incredible & the attention to detail astounding.
However, after you get past the initial "ooh's" & "aah's", its worth taking a step backwards & asking yourself is the game really that good?
Well, no its not (but I know plenty of people who would disagree).
First of all, the combat system is pretty lousy, I was assured it had been improved since the last GTA & was was much more intuitive, but I still found myself surounded by gun toting cops, yet still locking onto unarmed civillians who just happened to bein the way. The combat is still awkward.
Driving proved to be awkward too - which for a driving game is always a major problem. I seemed to spend my whole time watching the back end of my car spin out of control no matter how slowly I was going. High speed pursuits are nigh on impossible!! People say the cars handle like their real life counterparts & the game is more realistic. But if I wanted realism, I wouldn't be playing a video game!!!
There just seems to be a lot less freedomin this latest version, not as much to do. I am completley stuck on several of the missions (some of which are frustratingly difficult) which means I cannot go any furtherin the game. So I decided I would go exploring for a while, but there is only so much driving & exploring you can do before the tedium sets in.
Above all, I don't think this is a major leap forwardin gaming & it is not a major leap forwardin the GTA series - just a step sideways. This game is controller-smashingly frustrating, don't believe ALL the hype.
