Judge it in its own right, not compared to the earlier Resident Evil games - By: M_M, 26 Jul 2010
There have been a fair few reviews on here which compare the game unfavourably to some of the earlier Resident Evil games, which is fair enough - it doesn't have the suspense or depth of plot of Resi 4in my opinion, but that doesn't make Resi 5 a bad gamein its own right! I found the game good fun & engaging.
You get to run around some graphically great levels, using a variety of weapons (from pistols to shotguns, rifles to tasers, grenades to rocket launchers) that you can upgrade (oh, the fun to be had when you reach the zenith of the unlimited ammo upgrades). The enemies are more intelligent than the usual zombies you'd expect, which adds to the interest of this game, & some of the bosses are pretty scary / challenging. There's also the re-appearance of a few characters from Resident Evils of yester-year.
Resi 5 has moved away from the more realistic backpack space management for items you can carry around (Resi 4 differentiated between the sizes of items e.g. a large gun takes up more slotsin your bag than a grenade); now you have 9 spaces to fill - fill them with what you like, regardless of size. Personally, I find this easier to use (less thinking required), but it may bother some.
The graphics are good; the cut scenes are put together well. Character wise, the animation is fluid & you can unlock different costumes for Chris & Sheva, if you're interestedin that kind of thing (Chris does look like he's been put on a diet of high protein foods & steroids since his last outing, though). The characters are more emotive / animated, & the voice acting... well voice acting was never the strong point of Resident Evil anyway.
Both my other half & I are avid gamers. Short of buying two consoles & two copies of a game, there are very few games which we can actually play through the main story co-operatively, rather than the fairly limited 'versus' or battle modes games developers provide as a half-hearted acknowledgement that online isn't the only way people want to game together. So big, big bonus points to Resident Evil 5 for providing an offline, local co-op option for the story mode.
Allin all, a good looking, fun 3rd person shooter zombie fest & the additional modes provide a nice 'side' to the game.

Great game. Although not as tense as othersin the series.
Fun to play with friends, if not a little frustrating to have to rely on them to help you through the levels.
Dead Good for Shooting but the Puzzles are a rotting corpse - By: Mr. J. N. Redway, 03 Jun 2010
I loved the original Resident Evil games on the PS1, they had the atmosphere & they were gripping with their gameplay & the story lines. Even though the cut-scene acting was pants & the fact that you couldn't skip them was a pain. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was by far the best, the difficulty level was set so perfectly that even though it was tough it was not so tough that it was a chore to play. Then things went a lttle downhill, the FPS on rails effort with the light gun was nothing less than rubbish then Code Veronica on the Dreamcast was too difficult, I then skipped Resident Evil 4 since I didn't go for the PS2.
So years later I have a PS3 & when I heard that Resident Evil 5 was coming out I couldn't wait, that atmospheric horror could only have got better. The trailers all over the web showed a cool storyline & some great graphics but it was all a big shroud for what is basically a shooting game.
Don't get me wrong though, there are some puzzles within, just waiting to be figured out. But they are so simple its laughable. In one of the later stages of the game you need to collect symbols to place into a holein the wall which then lets you progress through to the next stage. There is nothing to work out, just get your timing right & pick up the piece, head back to the holein the wall & go & get the next piece - simple(s).
And thats it, great story, great graphics & sound but run around & kill or be killed & don't worry about thinking. So long as you conserve your ammo & pick your battles wisely, sell all of the gems you pick up you'll get to the end with no problems.
Useless game - controlls are unplayable - By: R. Ebenfuehrer, 28 May 2010
The game looks fantastic but with that kind of control system it is actually unplayable & the worst I have ever played.
Brilliant Game! One of the best I've played!.... - By: Ms. C. A. Heaton, 19 Apr 2010
Firstly I thought this game was excellent!! I have played it right through to the platinum trophie TWICE... the Lost In Nightmares bonus mission was great fun & shadowed previous Resident Evils, the versus mode is great fun, alot of fast paced action on a choice of great maps. The game itself is great, it takes about 4 or 5 playthroughs to earn the platinum trophy but this is one game where the platinum is realisticly obtainable. The graphics are good & I really enjoyed it.
