The game we just keep playing! - By: Luke Malkin, 05 Apr 2008
I cannot get over how good this game actually is. Me & a group of friends have been playing this since it came out on multiplayer, & we just refuse to get bored of it, even now one of us has an Xbox 360 & Halo 3, Super Smash Bros finds itselfin a gaming day routine everytime, without fail.
The single player is solid; classic mode, adventure mode, all star mode & event matches are just some of the choices on offer, & with so many characters to get used to, there's plenty of lifein this game for a single player, but with this just on it's own, the game would be quite unremarkable. The game is designed with Multiplayerin mind, & you have everything you could possibly want at your disposal for it.
The frame rate is continually perfect, it allows frantic & intense matches to be played. I think it's important to note that it is by no means random however (as it has been critised of being by the 1 Star review of this game previously). You learn & develop skillsin this game the more you play it, & you keep on getting better. There isn't really a set "end" point where you cannot learn anymore. This is what, for me, separates it from many other multiplayer games.

And to add to this- they're all Nintendo characters! A rich tapestry of Nintendo's past & present. You simply couldn't do this with any other games developer. Sony would get as far as Spyro & Crash Bandicoot & call it a day, Nintendo characters a piling up to be added!

Allin all I can't praise this game enough, it's longevity is astounding. I've given so many hours to videogamesin the past, but I don't regret a minute of playing this.
greatest game ever - By: William Hughes, 08 Nov 2007
I believe that this game could be the greatest games ever created the effects, the stadiums, the choice of players & overall effects of the game make this one of the Best. To be good you need a good mind, quick reflects & knowledge of each character, but you pick all this up quite quickly. If you are thinking of getting this game i would definatly advise it. just some of the characters included: Link (The Legend of Zelda), Captain Falcon (F-Zero), Fox (Star Fox), Picachu (Pokemon), Donkey Kong (Guess Where he came from) & Samus (Metroid Prime) just to name a few. And if you can wait Super Smash Bros. Brawl is coming out on the Wii Soon.

when it comes to multiplayer, this game really shines - By: G pryce, 11 Aug 2007
this is probably some of the best fun you will have on gamecube.having nintendo classic characters like mario(if you dont know him you should be ashamed)and link & making them destroy each other is strangely funny, fantastic & addictive.

casual gamers can just pick up the controller & master itin five minutes while hardcore gamers will love it as well.the buttons are very simple,A to attack,B & a certian direction to do a special move & X/Y to jump.

the gameplay from a fighter like tekken or soul caliber, has changed.instead of fighting until a persons life bars go down to zero, you have to keep attacking your opponent until there damage meter is quite high.the more damadge caused, the further they fly.then you have to unleash a powerful attack & knock them out the arena & at the end of a couple of minutes who ever gets knocked out the most loses!!!

as i said above its the multiplayer that makes this a must buy.the graphics arent pushing the gamecubes limits but are quite pretty.the lifespan is great on it.as long as you have another controller & a friend, this is endless fun.

my only main complaint is that some unlockable characters are clones of other character.dr mario has the same moves as mario & falco is an imitation of fox etc.apart from that, nintendo fans, people who love multiplayer, and people who are dying to smack pikachu with with a baseball bat then this is must buy.
One of the best fighting games ever made - By: D. J. Sam, 09 Jul 2007
I think this game could easily make the GameCube charts. It has loads of characters to choose from, lots of awards. The game is very long which is a good factor of the game. Graphics are awesome, sound quality is top notch, it is cartoony yet realistic. Great for playing with friends. I personally havent played the prequals but it seems to interest me.

Buy this game, even if you have got enough games. you wont be disappointed
An amazing sequel - By: Zabba, 10 Jun 2007
Now, I admit to fans of the traditional fighting formula that you seein the likes of the Street Fighter, Tekken, Dead or Alive & Soul Calibur series, that this is completely different. So if you're looking for that sort of game you won't find it here, but will find a fantastic & "different" fighting game.

To begin with, I'll start with the points that knocked the fun rating down a star, Like I mentioned above this isn't a traditional fighting genre, & the moves are limited to simple combinations, whilst this lowers combo's it makes the game easier to pick up & play & take a while to fully master. Secondly, although the character roster is pretty big, I beleive around 25 playable characters, around 6 of these are essentially clones of other characters. They have the exact movesets which only look slightly different, plus they are either slower/quicker/weaker/stronger than their counterparts. This is rather a shame, characters like Ganondorf had big potential, but he ended up with the same moves as Captain Falcon.

These bad points however, will seem relatively minor compared to the overall game. In terms of unlockable content, this game has it all. 9 Unlockable characters, many unlockable stages (with 3 from the N64 original)around 393 unlockable trophies (some of which you'll be playing a while for)and some routine ones like sound test.

Graphics: The graphics are a vast improvement from the original, I've read reviews from people who gave the game low scores & I disagree with comments on graphics. The graphical power of the Gamecube was quite advanced & the visuals on SSBM, although not overly showing off the hardware, are very good.

Gameplay: Like I mentioned before the forumula isn't the same as traditional fighters, so that my put you off. The gameplay is still unique to the series & is simple to pick up & play, but takes a while to master. There are 3 different single player modes you need to complete with each character & some side stuff like Home Run contest & Multi-man melee. The many game themed items provide much fun & variation as well. By far the best being the Freezie & Pokeball.

Sound: By far some of the best game music around, because the SSB series is all about the history of Nintendo & mixing it all up, you have music from practically all it's most famous games, & some classic ones remixed (Mach Rider) & if the music does get on your nerves, you can change the soundtrack on some stages by presing & holding L when selecting it.

Lifespan: It might not last you as long as the likes of Final Fantasty games, Okami or The legend of Zelda: Twilight Pricness, but it'll still last you ages depending on how much you want to do. I myself still need around 3 more trophies after having the game over 3 years. Although SSBM is really one of those titles you play for ages, then stop, then come back to months later. So it's potential lifespan clocks into the years.

Multiplayer: Simply awesome, no doubt about it. This is what this game was made for, it's a laugh with mates & you'll just keep playing (if you like the game, that is) & playing. There are lots of different modes as well, so if you want to be giant or invisible, you can!

Overall this is an amazing game, but it's difference from traditional fighters may put people off, & if you're not a fan of any of Nintendo's work, you won't find anything you want here (I also question why you have a Gamecube) but this game is still an essential title that every Gamecube owner must own.

If you love this game, then look out for Super Smash Bros Brawl, the highly anticipated sequel on Wii that promises to better even this!
